PASE Long Gun Fun

This is a friendly introductory course to long distance shooting with a rifle. Our Instructors focus on safety, weapons familiarity, target acquiring shot placement and how to shoot accurately - all under supervision and control.

This course is specifically designed for parents who want their children to become familiar with fire-arms, specifically rifles, for hunting purposes. The course is designed to make it fun and take the stress of parent child training away by using an Instructor who would embed the fundamentals in a controlled and yet friendly environment. The course Instructor is Gerrit Bezuidenhout, who is also our designated Long Range Specialist, so the kids will get the best training available!

Part of the weekend we ahev arranged for a PASE Field Safari to accommodate the remainder of the family and kids who would not participate in the training course, please refer to our course named Field Safaris - Bushveld, for more information and to book. The dates run in parallel and is designed to cater for the whole family.

The course covers the following concepts over two days, which start on the Friday. Note that we also accommodate day participants on the Saturday.

 Friday evening from 18:00:

1. Friendly get together and boma fire
2. Sign of indemnities and necessary documentation

Saturday: - Starts at 08:00

1. Introduction to Fire-Arms
2. Reason for Hunting (Q &A)
3. Equipment required for hunting
4. Weapons Safety (handling and carrying)
5. The different parts which make up a rifle
6. Basic marksmanship - tailored for the group maturity level
7. Level 1 Shooting Exercise
8. Level 2 Shooting Exercise
9. Evaluation
10. Evening event includes a Lantern stalk Exercise with the whole family - closes at 22:00

Sunday: - Starts at 08:00

1. Recap of day 1
2. Level 3 Shooting Exercise
3. Level 4 Shooting Exercise
4. Basic Fieldcraft explained
5. Introduction to tracking
6. Stalking methods  (fun exercise)
7. Camo (face painting etc)
8. Basic First aid
9. Certification - by 15:00

Equipment Required for the range:

1. Ammunition
2. Rifles can be hired, we use the following:
   • Airguns for shooting technique and practice
   • .22 calibre for sound and effect, as well as range familiarisation
   • .243 calibre for introduction towards larger calibres
   • .308 for the final assessment
3. All equipment can be hired for the course

What is needed for the camp:

1. Sleeping bag and pillow
2. Sunscreen  and Hat
3. Comfortable shoes
4. Long pants for field walks
5. NB- field colours to be worn only, no flashing colours
6. Flashlight / Headlamp
7. Beanie for the winter
8. Water bottle to carry
9. Anti-bug spray
10. Notebook and pen

Prices:

All the PASE courses and products will be available for online payments.

1. Fire-arms rental package per entry (this includes fire-arms and ammunition): R2,350
2. Accommodation is separate from the course cost, the following will be available
   • There are 10 x Chalets at R1,300 per chalet per day (minimum two nights have to be booked)
   • Tented camp (there are 6 x 2 sleeper tents in a camp) at R1,500 per day for the whole camp
   • 4 x Caravan stands at R500 per stand for the weekend
